{blessed2be} New Year's Insights

For those of you who don’t know, one of my favorite holidays of the year is New Year’s. There is never a day more filled with positive energy and hope for a prosperous, abundant future then that one day. Even those who aren’t normally as mindful of their goals can find themselves in a space to dream.  With all that collective spirit how can we let an opportunity slip by without reflection on the year we have passed?  Getting clear on the accomplishments and lessons of the past is the fuel that can drive the creation of a beautiful new chapter. And so I begin with my list of glory and wisdom for 2010…

1.       Know that your success is a direct result of the energy you are putting into your business. Good luck is really just the combination of sweat and good planning.
2.      Even when insanely busy, don’t forget to look ahead..the efforts will take time to cultivate, but you don’t want to be left wondering…. By then, it’s too late.
3.      Serve. A one sided relationship will never last long. Don’t ask “can I be on your list”, rather, “how can our relationship best serve you?”
4.      Know that balance of personal and professional life is only something your client’s will respect AFTER you do.
5.       Have integrity. This means being honest and true to who you are, even when it is painful to do so.  In the end the truth will come out anyway.
6.       All you are is your reputation.
7.       Be direct. There is no gray area because no one is left reading between the lines. Without this, growth cannot exist.
8.       There is a cost to doing business.  And that cost should be something that both parties in your relationship recognize. Many are good at their product/service, but bad at this relationship.  Know the difference.
9.        Listen more then you speak. You’d be amazed how much better your communication is when you do.
10.   Practice gratitude every day.

While I certainly can’t give all my secrets away about the exact plans for 2011, it is for certain that they will be met with passion, courage and conviction because of the experiences from previous years gone by.  Especially those who have touched my life in 2010, even if brief, for those wonderful people I am eternally grateful. Cheers to 2011!
